Our first night in the Highlands, Day #25, Tuesday Sept 29, where we set up camp at the Bill O’Reilly Oval.  Our Commemorative Ceremony will take place ~17:00 with students from Wingello Public School participating telling stories of diggers whose descendants still live in the area. (To our knowledge, no Kangaroos joined the March from Wingello.)

DAY #26, Wednes Sept 30:  Depart Wingello: 09:00, Kareela Rd, 10:30 Morning tea  just shy of Penrose at Sylvan Glen Guest House and Golf Club. Not long after, in fact around noon, and only 2 kms later, the good folk of Penrose Progress Association are providing a most appealing Ploughman’s Lunch at Penrose Hall.
Then we keep on Kareela Rd, to the end and then through the property “Jumping Rock” and on to Ferndale Road, corner of Quarry Rd. Ferndale merges into Old Wingello Road.
Turn right into Ellsmore, right again into Erith, over the Railway Bridge following along Anzac Parade, left into Railway Pde, and right into Osborne St and Osborn Ave and Victoria Street to the side entrance to Bundanoon Public School at Bundanoon by ~16:30.

The Original March: What Happened

Once the march left Goulburn the pace increased dramatically with marches of up to 26 miles in one day.  After leaving Marulan on December 28, the march headed towards Bundanoon but camped the night in Wingello on the route to Bundanoon.

Meanwhile Overseas

The British war cabinet voted to introduce conscription – single men before married men – in an effort to provide the manpower required by the armies in France.
